Kundalakesi is one of the five great epics in Tamil literature. This abridged version is designed for easy reading and is also suitable for students and children. The epic narrates the story of Kundalakesi, a woman who killed her husband Kaalan because he tried to kill her. Then, she became a Buddhist monk and spread the glory of the time. The story highlights social customs, religious rites and traditions observed by the of that era. இந்நூல் ஐம்பெருங்காப்பியங்களில் ஒன்றான குண்டலகேசியின் சுருக்கப்பட்ட வடிவமாகும். இது மாணவர்களும் குழந்தைகளும் வாசிக்க எளிதான வகையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. நல்லவன் எனக் கருதி திருமணம் செய்த கணவன் காள்ன் தன்னை கொல்ல முற்பட்டப்போது அவனைக் கொன்று விடிகிறாள் குண்டலகேசி. பின்னர் பௌத்த துறவியாகி, அச்சமயத்தின் பெருமையைப் பரப்புவதில் ஈடுபட்ட குண்டலகேசி என்னும் வணிகர் குலப் பெண்ணொருத்தியின் கதை இது. அக்காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்த மக்களின் பண்பாடு, பழக்க வழக்கம், போன்றவற்றையும் இக்கதை எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.
